Social Responsibility

Epic Relays has a "global village" world view, and a sense of responsibility deeply rooted in our company. Not only do we believe that doing business responsibly is the right thing to do, but we believe it pays dividends in the end—I guess you can say we believe what goes around comes around. We firmly believe that we have a responsibility to our customers, our employees, the communities we run through, and the beautiful earth we enjoy. We believe in giving back, but we also believe in sustaining the good things we currently enjoy.

Sustainability

Those of us who care about who we are never forget where we came from. Many of you have participated in or are planning on participating in an Epic Relay because you love the beautiful areas that we promote. Like you, Epic Relays wants these areas to be around forever.

Each of us has some connection to the majestic mountain ranges, powerful rivers and diverse ecological communities that we pass through during our races. We need to protect these areas. Those of us who call ourselves environmentalists have a responsibility to examine our role and close the gap between the problems we see and the solutions we propose.

With this in mind, Epic Relays are carbon neutral events. This means for every pound of carbon released by vehicles, generators or other equipment during our events, we will work to off-set those emissions. How do we do it?

We take an inventory of the number and type of vehicles at each event, take the average emissions of the vehicles and calculate it by the number of miles driven for the course (obviously this can only be an estimate and not an exact number).

To off-set these emissions we will plant the necessary amount of trees, flowers and other vegetation in the neighboring communities that the Epic Relay takes place. This will off-set the carbon footprint that we leave behind and make strides towards keeping the areas in which we all love around for many generations to come.

Don't get us wrong, we are not here to change the world, but we want to protect what we have. It's beautiful the way it is. We want to keep it that way.

Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.
